Today is July 3rd, 2024 and I thought this old article was interesting in it’s dollars from garden space. We usually plant garlic now around fruit trees for two reasons – 1) to keep gophers away and 2) to water weekly so I don’t have to! On with the 13 year old article!
Today is (June 29, 2011) I harvested the last five full heads and two small cloves of garlic in the garden. The Garlic was planted from organic cloves in the fall of 2010 about 6″ apart.
At the time of posting, we could purchase Organic Garlic from LA at $1.82 per 1/2 lb. = $3.64/lb. One head or bulb of garlic contains @10 cloves and there are 40-50 cloves in 1lb. 2 lb took @1 sq ft and 7-8 months to grow = $7.28/sq ft.
