M2 – NERVES

Lesson 3

Can nerves regenerate?

Recent research shows they can!  Why should this matter to you as a young person?

Knowing that nerves can be protected and regenerated can help with:

  • Improving vision
  • Controlling nervous system responses
  • Improving brain function and, as this article shows, it can help with actually regenerating damaged nerves

The brain controls the communication through nerves.  Below is a picture showing how many areas the brain communicates to through nerves.  Sight, hearing, taste, chewing, singing, facial expressions and muscles are all contacted through nerves from the brain - and that is just from the neck up!

This module will explore the nutrients that help nerves do their work of communication better.

READ the picture below and making a note of where healthier nerves might help you in your day to day life and

WRITE down areas that you might be helped personally.

STUDY the following research paper to understand how b vitamins impact the nerves.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8294980/

WRITE what b vitamins impact nerves.

CONSIDER what other things these b vitamins are known to help the body process.

THINK about what might happen if your diet makes you require more of these nutrients or if these nutrients are used up by another need to leave you deficient.

TALK about your thoughts in class.
